We drove up to San Marcos to visit our favorite girl the other day. While we were there we made the required pilgrimage to Aquarena Springs and took a ride in one of their glass-bottom boats.


I remember riding in one of these boats a lonnnnnnnnng time ago, but I distinctly remember lying on my stomach on the glass bottom and pressing my face to the glass to see the fish. Did I make this up? Are the boats different 45 years later? Only my mom and dad can answer those questions (if they remember), but I definitely did not get to press my face to the glass this time.

The top left photo shows one of the 200+ springs that bubble up to form the headwaters of the San Marcos River. Can you spot the turtle in the top right shot? All sorts of plants grow in the river, as seen in the bottom left photo, and one area of the river bed is currently marked off for an archaeological dig.

After the boat "ride" (more of a stop-and-go putter, actually), we decided to walk around the grounds a bit. Curtis is always ready to smile for the camera ... even if he has to sneak into the background to do so.

We didn't have to walk far to suddenly feel as if we'd stumbled onto the set of Lost. First there was the submarine that was our only hope for escaping The Island.

Then there was this odd, abandoned contraption. We couldn't find a sign for it, but I'm pretty sure this experimental station was once known as The Pod. Or The Portal. Or something.

Even the bushes were covered in cobwebs. I fully expected to see a polar bear or a shark or Fake Locke at any moment.

Seriously, how visually striking is this old place?! Yet another location I would dearly love to have closer to me so I could use it for senior portrait sessions.

It's a shame that Texas State University plans to tear down these old structures. Hmmmm ... I wonder how much it would cost to have them moved to Angleton?

They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;

they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.

Zoe is a sweetheart indeed.


Just look at her sweet little fingers and toes.


At six weeks, Zoe is already expressing her personality. She likes to look people straight in the eyes in order to get her point across.

I love this series of Zoe and her mom Heather. Don't you think Zoe's thoughts are pretty clear?

She was so fun to photograph and so strong already!

Did you know that Zoe's name is used 134 in the New Testament? It's the Greek word for life, especially eternal life.

As in:

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

John 14:6

May your whole, long, eternal life be just as sweet as you are, Zoe!

Say hello to Oshay, one of my senior reps for the Angleton Class of 2011! Since she's part of the class that will be first to graduate from the new high school, we had to do a few shots there. This is going to be a great location to use over the coming years.


Then we headed over to a place where Oshay has spent lots of time during her growing up years -- the Brazoria County Fairgrounds. I'll bet she has quite a ribbon collection for all of the animals she's raised and shown. And who would have guessed that Oshay's smile could light up this old barn and arena so brightly?

I really like Oshay's sparkly smile and eyes ...

... her intelligence and sense of humor ...

... her poise and naturalness ...

... her elegance and tomboyishness ...

... her sassiness and self-confidence ...

... and her grace and strength!

No wonder she calls herself Oshay The Great!

Look at this adorable little fairy I chased around the park last week!

Because she's a smart fairy, Cambria took her time making sure I could be trusted with her precious smile.

After some kisses and reassurance from her mom ...

... and some tickles and acrobatics with her dad ...

... Cambria was ready to explore. She was not particularly happy with the way bits of grass were sticking to her wet feet, but even that didn't really slow her down.

There was so much to see in her fairy kingdom!

So many new things to try out fearlessly and oh so rapidly!

I think she liked the swing the best since it helped her to fly.

Cambria was much more patient with this slippery bow than was a certain little girl who used to live at my house.

In fact, she was a delight in every way.

I'll bet her parents wonder what they did for fun before she arrived 18 months ago. Certainly nothing that could compare with running after this particular little fairy!

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
